A fire at Eunma Apartment in Daechi-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul resulted in one death and three injuries.
According to Gangnam-gu and fire authorities, the fire erupted on the 8th floor of Eunma Apartment at around 6:18 AM on the 24th.
The fire claimed the life of one teenager, while two others in the same household sustained facial burns and smoke inhalation injuries and were rescued.
Additionally, one person in another unit sustained smoke inhalation injuries, and approximately 70 residents in the same building evacuated. All the injured are reported to be in non-life-threatening conditions.
Upon receiving the report, fire authorities dispatched 143 personnel and 35 pieces of equipment, managing to control the major fire by 6:48 AM and completely extinguishing it by 7:36 AM.
The police and fire authorities are conducting an initial joint on-site inspection to determine the exact cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
Eunma Apartment, built in 1979, has been planning redevelopment since the late 1990s. However, plans were delayed due to failure to pass safety inspections and internal disputes within the association.
Following the finalization of the maintenance plan last September, the apartment is set to undergo redevelopment into a large-scale complex with 5,893 units across 49 floors by 2030.
