Sung Dong-hoon, Reporter,
,
, “The prosecution has specifically identified the timing and content of phone conversations between Myung Tae-kyun, implicated in the ‘Myung Tae-kyun Gate’, and Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon. Myung reportedly testified that ‘Mayor Oh called four times in a single day to request opinion polls and informed me on how to have the costs paid’. Myung also claimed that Oh’s side had him handle not only unpublished but also published poll requests. Myung further disclosed that ‘Kim Geon-hee asked to take care of former prosecutor Kim Sang-min’, reiterating the suspicions of Kim’s interference in nominations. The prosecution plans to call Kim in for questioning soon.”,

, “According to a report by Kyunghyang Shinmun on the 29th, Myung testified to the prosecution that morning about the details of his phone conversations with Mayor Oh. Myung recounted receiving a call from Oh on January 22, 2021, while passing by Jangbok Tunnel in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam Province, in a car driven by Kim Tae-yeol, the nominal head of the Future Korea Research Institute (Mihan-yeon), leading to a total of four calls that day. This is the first time specific details about these calls have been confirmed.”,
,
, “According to Myung’s testimony, in the first call, Mayor Oh reportedly said, ‘There are polls showing Na Kyung-won winning. Please come to Seoul quickly’. In the second call, Oh allegedly stated, ‘We urgently need an opinion poll that shows Na Kyung-won winning’.”,
,
, “Myung also testified that Mayor Oh was aware of the potential violation of political funding laws. Oh allegedly called for the third time, saying, ‘I am on my way to meet Chairman Kim Han-jung (Oh’s support committee chairman) because we need to borrow 20 million won for polling costs due to the risk of violating political funding laws’ and expressed gratitude if assistance could be provided. According to the prosecution’s findings, Chairman Kim did indeed cover polling costs amounting to a total of 33 million won, credited to the account of Hye-kyung Kang, the accountant of Mihan-yeon. Mihan-yeon conducted 13 non-public opinion polls related to Mayor Oh, with at least 12 showing signs of manipulation to place Oh in the lead or narrow the gap with other candidates. The ‘winning poll’ and cost coverage were provided as requested by Mayor Oh.”,

[Exclusive] Oh Se-hoon’s Aide Found to Have Accessed Opinion Polls Before Public Release
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon’s camp was found to have received opinion polls commissioned by the Future Korea Research Institute before their public release during the 2021 mayoral by-election. The prosecution secured the polls sent before their public release from the mobile phone of former deputy mayor Kang Cheol-won. Oh’s campaign had claimed they did not use any opinion poll results associated with political broker Myung Tae-kyun, which contradicts this finding.

, “Myung also asserted that Mayor Oh requested him to conduct published polls. He testified that Oh, in the fourth call on the same day, said, ‘Discuss with Kang Cheol-won (former deputy mayor of Seoul) about conducting not only non-public but also published opinion polls independently, and I will tell Chairman Kim to continue supporting the costs’. The prosecution confirmed through forensic analysis of former deputy mayor Kang’s mobile phone that Oh’s side had received several published opinion polls commissioned by Mihan-yeon in advance.”,
,
, “Upon appearing at the prosecution, Myung remarked, ‘I came from Changwon to Seoul to catch Mayor Oh’, adding there are ‘20 investigation points related to Mayor Oh, with less than 10% revealed so far’. Regarding meetings with Oh, he mentioned, ‘There is concrete evidence for at least seven occurrences’.”,

,
, “The investigation into allegations involving Kim Geon-hee’s interference in nominations is also gaining momentum. Myung’s side indicated that if the investigation wraps up early today, they could provide testimony regarding Kim tomorrow. Upon arriving at the prosecution, Myung stated, ‘(Kim Geon-hee) mentioned during the Cho Kuk investigation that “Prosecutor Kim Sang-min worked hard, take care of him”,’ suggesting her influence in nominating Kim over former representative Kim Young-sun in the Changwon Uichang constituency for the 22nd general election.”,
,
, “The Seoul city government remarked, ‘As we have forensically analyzed all phones used by those involved at the time, if Myung’s claims were true, something would have surfaced’. They added, ‘No one would believe the claim that a lawyer like Mayor Oh would knowingly call to say he was violating election law’.”
