“Every night the ghost of a victim appears, I’m exhausted”… Yoo Young-chul’s complaint causes shock

The infamous serial killer Yoo Young-chul (54) reportedly confessed to a prison guard that he has been seeing the ghosts of his victims. On the episode of SBS’s “The Story of the Day Biting Its Tail” that aired on October 31st, Lee Yoon-ho, a former prison guard who conducted weekly four-hour interviews with Yoo for seven years, appeared and disclosed this information.

Former guard Lee recounted, “After Yoo was incarcerated, he came looking for me with bloodshot eyes. He told me he hadn’t been able to sleep well lately.” When asked for the reason, Yoo claimed that the victims appear as ghosts every night, Lee recalled.

He continued, “In his solitary cell, he kept hallucinating above the toilet area, seeing about three to four ghosts. He said it made him unable to sleep and that daily life was becoming exhausting.”

Hearing this story, panelists expressed their anger. Choi Deok-moon remarked, “Moving rooms won’t make them disappear. It’s karma.” Jang Hyun-sung added, “Even a psychopath criminal seemed afraid of seeing the victims. It seemed more important to sincerely seek forgiveness from the victims and their families rather than worrying about sleep.”

Former guard Lee also revealed that Yoo, who was prosecuted for the deaths of 20 women, admitted that there are still bodies that have not been found.

Lee explained, “When I asked where, he said they were buried near the Gyeongbu Expressway. During the on-site verification, they couldn’t find about three of the bodies.” He added, “He claimed those are the ones he sees as ghosts.”

He concluded by suggesting, “If there are still undiscovered bodies, perhaps Yoo should cooperate more with the prosecution to find them and return at least some relics to the bereaved families.”

Meanwhile, Yoo Young-chul is acknowledged as the worst serial killer in South Korea, having murdered 20 people from September 2003 to July 2004. Prior to his serial killings, he had committed numerous crimes such as theft and rape, with 14 previous convictions at the time of his arrest. Yoo is the murderer responsible for the most deaths among South Korean serial killers and his case was a catalyst for introducing the concept of a psychopath in Korea.

After his death sentence was finalized in June 2005, he is currently incarcerated at Seoul Detention Center as a death row inmate.
