During the trial, Yoo Dong-kyu shouted at Lee Jae-myung, “Why are you glaring at me?” This outburst led to a temporary halt of the proceedings.

Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party, faced off in court with Yu Dong-gyu, the former head of planning at Seongnam Urban Development Corporation, who appeared as a witness in Lee’s trial. During the proceedings, Yu yelled at Lee, telling him not to glare, which led to a temporary pause in the trial.

On the 7th, a hearing was held at the Seoul Central District Court regarding allegations involving Daejang-dong, Wirye, Seongnam FC, and Baekhyeon-dong, with cross-examination of Yu conducted by the defendant’s side.

While being questioned about the Daejang-dong project bid, Yu raised his voice, accusing Lee’s side of trying to blame him. He claimed that they were attempting to say, “It’s all Yu Dong-gyu’s doing, and everything about Daejang-dong was handled by Kim Man-bae and you.”

As Yu continued to stare at Lee, the judge intervened, asking if they were having a staring contest and instructing them not to look at each other.

Yu then claimed that he was only looking because Lee was glaring at him, questioning why Lee was doing so despite him merely stating the truth. He further stated that though most people would tremble before Lee, he wasn’t scared at all and found Lee ridiculous, raising his voice. The judge declared a 15-minute recess.

The judge asked Yu to restrain his speech, mentioning that the trial risked becoming a political issue. They warned that if the issue persisted, measures such as installing partitions or using monitors to prevent eye contact between the defendants and Yu would be taken.

Lee’s representatives protested, suggesting the trial be separated so that the defendant wasn’t subjected to unjust personal insults, deeming it unfair.
