A man who was arrested on suspicion of trafficking cocaine as an illegal resident has been released due to lack of evidence. The police presented a white powder as evidence, which showed a positive reaction for cocaine in a preliminary drug test, but the National Forensic Service determined that the ingredient could not be confirmed. According to the Jeonju Wansan Police Station on the 1st, A, a Vietnamese national in his 30s, was sent to the prosecution on charges of violating the drug management law (selling and possessing drugs). During a search of A’s residence, the police seized and confiscated 87g of white powder. Two preliminary drug tests on the powder showed a positive reaction for cocaine, but after A was sent to the prosecution, the National Forensic Service reported that the substance could not be confirmed as a narcotic. Based on the fact that the substance was not a drug, the prosecution followed the minimum legal procedures for A and transferred him, an illegal resident, to the immigration authorities. The drug test kit used this time is the latest equipment introduced earlier this year. However, its credibility is expected to suffer a serious blow due to this error. An official from the drug investigation department of the Jeonbuk Provincial Police Agency stated, “We have reported the discrepancy between the preliminary test results and the analysis by the National Forensic Service that has been in place since the beginning of this year to the headquarters and requested an investigation into the cause of the machine error.”
