The government is starting to discuss the return of interns and residents who collectively resigned last year. They aim to finalize agreements on specific eligibility requirements by next week and announce the recruitment for the second half of the year.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare held the second training council meeting at Dalgaebi in Jung-gu, Seoul, on the 31st to discuss the improvement of training environments and return measures with the Korea Intern and Resident Association. The training council, a public-private consultative body established on the 25th, aims to create conditions for the return of interns and residents who left the medical field in February last year.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare discussed recruitment qualifications for the second half of the year and ways to ensure training continuity but did not reach a specific conclusion. However, it was decided to acknowledge the approximately ten-day training gap for interns and residents who resigned on February 19-20 last year.

The Ministry plans to conclude discussions on the eligibility criteria for returning interns and residents at the third training council meeting on September 7th. Kim Guk-il stated, “A decision is needed by next week due to the schedule,” adding that the recruitment announcement is expected to be made later that week or early the following week.
