“Despaired by Business Failure,” a man in his 50s kills five family members, including parents, wife, and children.

A man in his 50s was arrested by police after killing five family members—his parents, wife, and two daughters—in an apartment in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. The Western Yongin Police Station reported on the 15th that the man, referred to as A, allegedly drugged his family members with sleeping pills and then strangled them. A left a note at the scene expressing despair over a failed business venture and his intention to kill his family and himself.

After the attack, A sent a text message to a relative claiming it was a family suicide, which prompted the relative to call emergency services. Upon arrival, the police and fire authorities found the five family members deceased after forcing entry into the apartment.

The police tracked A’s movements to an apartment in Dong-gu, Gwangju, where they arrested him. At the time of his arrest, A had attempted suicide by ingesting drugs and was found in an unconscious state. He was treated at a nearby hospital before being transferred to the Western Yongin Police Station later that night.

Investigators believe that A was living alone in a different region away from his family and fell into despair over his failed business, leading to the horrific crime. A police official stated that now that A is in custody, they will proceed with investigating the specific murder methods and motives in detail.
