(Posted in Daegu, Yonhap News) Reporter Hwang Soo-bin – On the 16th, the city of Daegu announced that if Daegu and Gyeongbuk were to integrate, they would achieve a regional gross domestic product (GRDP) of 1,512 trillion won by 2045, based on growth infrastructure like the new Daegu-Gyeongbuk (TK) airport.
In a press release issued that day, the city stated, “It is expected that the number of jobs will increase to 7.73 million, the population to 12.05 million, and the number of businesses to 2.36 million,” adding that by 2045, the GRDP will be 1.3 times that of Seoul.
The Daegu-Gyeongbuk administrative integration was at risk of falling through but recently gained momentum after the city of Daegu accepted the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s mediation proposal, which was positively evaluated by Gyeongbuk Province.
Daegu city plans to proceed with follow-up procedures by holding a signing ceremony with the participation of key figures from each institution, including Mayor Hong Joon-pyo of Daegu, Governor Lee Cheol-woo of Gyeongbuk, Minister Lee Sang-min of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and U Dong-ki, Chairman of the Regional Era Committee, if Gyeongbuk Province accepts the mediation proposal.
