The fake “Buldak Bokkeummyeon” being sold worldwide has sparked controversy. Sungshin Women’s University Professor Seo Kyung-duk reported on the 25th via social media, “I learned about this through reports from many netizens living abroad. There are already many posts on social media warning about ‘fake products’.”
Professor Seo highlighted that “Instead of the Samyang Foods logo, the name ‘BINGOONE’ is used, and the back reads ‘MADE IN P.R.C’, meaning People’s Republic of China, the official name of China.”
In 2021, major food companies like Samyang Foods, CJ CheilJedang, Ottogi, and Daesang formed a joint council to eliminate K-food counterfeit products and filed intellectual property rights infringement lawsuits against Chinese companies, winning some cases.
Professor Seo pointed out that “the compensation awarded by the Chinese court at that time was significantly less than the actual damages incurred by the companies, which was controversial.” He stressed, “Now the Korean government needs to take proactive measures to ensure our companies can protect their intellectual property rights overseas.”
He also warned that such fake products booming worldwide could negatively impact the well-regarded ‘K-food’ image, adding, “Chinese companies should stop selling fakes globally.”
