Kim In-yeop, who was running in the Sejong superintendent election, withdrew from the race on the candidate registration day, the 14th, and officially announced his support for candidate Won Seong-su.

At the press conference held at Sejong City Hall, Kim declared, “I am resigning from my position as a preliminary candidate to support candidate Won.”

He further stated, “As of today, I am relinquishing all my authority as a preliminary candidate and declaring the unification with candidate Won for the innovation of Sejong Education. I trust candidate Won and will be a seed for the greater cause of innovation in Sejong’s education.”

Candidate Won, who was present at the event, said, “I have been attentively watching Kim’s energetic campaign. I deeply appreciate his decision for Sejong education and will actively incorporate the good policies announced by candidate Kim.”

They clarified that this announcement was part of the unification process for the candidate of the democratic and progressive front for the education superintendent.

Candidate Kim commented, “I believed that the previous unification process led by civic groups for two preliminary candidates lacked sufficient democratic procedures and legitimacy. This unification was decided after a deliberation process.” This remark aimed at the expression used last month in the unification of candidate Lim Jeon-su among the six middle- and progressive-leaning preliminary candidates for Sejong superintendent.

Meanwhile, candidate Won had declined a proposal to run in the by-election for the National Assembly representing Gongju, Buyeo, and Cheongyang in South Chungcheong Province from the Democratic Party. On the 7th, at a press conference at the Sejong City Council, Won stated, “I will dedicate myself to the Sejong superintendent election till the end,” revealing his intention not to run in the by-election.

He said, “Although the proposal from the Democratic Party is very meaningful and appreciated, I am more of an educator than a politician. I stand here for Sejong education and will strive unwaveringly for change and innovation until the end.”
