Busan, a city where children are happy, holds a Children’s Day celebration on the 20th

Busan City announced on the 18th that it will hold the “Busan City Children’s Day Commemorative Event” at the Delracnallak Children’s Complex Cultural Space in Busan City Hall on the afternoon of the 20th.

Busan City became the first metropolitan city to receive the Child-Friendly City certification from the Korean Committee for UNICEF in 2019. Since then, it has designated the third Wednesday of November every year as “Busan City Children’s Day” to promote a culture of respecting children’s rights and provide a platform for child participation.

The event, hosted and organized by Busan City, will involve five child-related organizations: “Dream Dream Kids,” “Save the Children,” “UNICEF Korean Committee Busan Office,” “Green Umbrella Child Fund,” and “Busan Science and Technology Council,” which will operate child experience spaces.

The event will proceed in the order of the reading of the Child Rights Charter, resolutions from the Korea Children’s Assembly Busan Regional Conference, delivery of sponsorship money, awarding of contributors to the creation of the child-friendly city, and a commemorative performance by local children.

Sooyoung-ro Church will donate 95 million KRW worth of sponsorship funds to be used for shelters for abused children, air conditioning and heating for homes with disabled children, and projects for foster children.

Woo Mi-ok, the head of the Women and Family Policy Bureau of Busan City, stated, “We will create an environment where children are respected and can develop their potential, making Busan a city that’s great for raising children and the happiest city for children.”
