‘On the 25th, the criminal division 1 of Jeongeup branch of Jeonju District Court (presided over by Judge Jeong Young-ha) sentenced Mr. A (80), who was charged with murder, to 12 years in prison.’
‘Mr. A was indicted for beating and stabbing his wife (68) to death with a soju bottle at his home in Jeongeup-si, Jeollabuk-do, on Lunar New Year’s Day, February 17th, at around 11:38 a.m.’
‘He informed his son of the crime by calling and saying, “I killed your mom,” and was subsequently arrested by the police who were dispatched.’
‘It was revealed that Mr. A committed the crime out of suspicion of his wife’s infidelity, despite her having devotedly supported the family for over 48 years.’
‘He was known to become delusional that his wife was seeing another man whenever he drank, resorting to violence or verbal abuse.’
‘The court stated, “The children have suffered great sadness from losing their mother in an instant due to the defendant’s crime, receiving irrecoverable shock and pain, which makes severe punishment unavoidable.” However, the court also noted, “Considering the defendant’s age, 80, and that the crime seems to have been committed impulsively under the influence of alcohol, the sentence was determined.”‘
