An autopsy was conducted on a public officer in their 30s who unfortunately passed away after calling 119 but not receiving help.

The Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 15th that an autopsy is scheduled for the 16th to determine the cause of death of a civil servant from Suseong District, Daegu, who died after calling for help but not receiving any assistance.

On the night of the 12th, at around 11:35 PM, Mr. A, a civil servant in his 30s who was working overtime in the annex office of the Suseong District Office, felt unwell and called 119 directly from his mobile phone. The fire department and police were dispatched to search the area, but they determined there was no one inside because the door to the annex building was locked, and they did not attempt to enter, choosing to search the surrounding area instead, before withdrawing around midnight.

Despite having made the emergency call, Mr. A did not receive any assistance and was found dead the next morning at around 6:45 AM by a janitor in the 4th-floor office of the annex. The police stated that no signs of trauma or foul play were found on Mr. A, nor was there a suicide note at the scene.

The fire department explained that the GPS location indicated nearby the district office, but not precisely at the district office itself, and the building where Mr. A was located appeared unoccupied due to no lights being on and the door being locked. They added that they searched all accessible buildings in the vicinity.

Mr. A’s memorial altar has been set up in a funeral hall at a local hospital in Daegu. The incident has sparked controversy in the community about the inadequate response, with public anger growing over the civil servant’s tragic death. In response to the increasing backlash, the police and fire department are investigating the situation.
