(Jinju=Yonhap News) Reporter Jeong Jong-ho — The Jinju Police Station in Gyeongnam announced on the 7th that a man in his 50s, identified as Mr. A, was arrested and sent to prosecution on charges of creating public anxiety by wandering the streets with a weapon while drunk (possession of a weapon in a public place, etc.).

According to the police, Mr. A is accused of walking around a street in Ihyeon-dong, Jinju City, wielding a weapon while intoxicated around 8:12 p.m. on the 30th of last month.

There were no casualties resulting from Mr. A’s actions.

Police, responding to a report from a passerby, apprehended Mr. A at the scene.

Investigations revealed that from the 16th to the 30th of last month, Mr. A had been under the influence of alcohol at hospitals, convenience stores, and bars around Jinju. During this period, he was also involved in three cases of obstruction of business, where he verbally abused and threatened to hit employees and customers at these establishments.

The police will extend the “Intensive Crackdown on Violence in Everyday Life” period until October 31st to respond strictly to such crimes.

From April to last month, during the intensive crackdown, the police arrested 640 individuals, of whom 20 were detained.

A police official remarked, “Residents often do not report neighborhood violence due to fear of retaliation, but reporting is necessary to prevent further harm.” They urged, “If you experience such violence, please actively report it to 112.”
