A man in his 30s who was distributing bundles of cash in Ilsan turned out to be a ‘gangster wanted by police’ once apprehended.

A 30-year-old male, previously involved in organized crime and wanted by authorities, was apprehended by police patrol officers while walking. The incident occurred on October 31 in front of a café in Ilsandong-gu, Goyang City, when officers from the Gyeonggi Northern Police Agency’s patrol unit noticed a group of men gathered together.

Upon closer inspection, the officers observed the 30-year-old suspect, identified as Mr. A, distributing bundles of 50,000 won cash to the men in the group. Sensing suspicious activity and potential criminal proceeds, the officers approached and conducted an on-the-spot identification check.

While most of the men complied and disclosed their identities, Mr. A attempted to conceal his, presenting an ID card in someone else’s name. He also provided a fake business card and a check card in another name, insisting on his false identity. However, police quickly verified that the information was bogus.

When pressed further by the officers, Mr. A protested and attempted to flee through the café’s back door, questioning the reason for the inquiry and why his word wasn’t trusted. Officers managed to subdue him after a brief struggle, arresting him on the spot for violating identity laws.

Even while being transported to the police station, Mr. A continued to fabricate his identity, citing other people’s social security numbers. It was revealed that he had memorized several fake identities to evade capture. Persistent interrogation by the police eventually led to the collection of accurate personal details of Mr. A.

Investigation revealed that Mr. A was a gang member active in the Daegu and Pohang areas, wanted for a total of 14 cases, including three arrest warrants for aggravated assault and fraud, one fine evasion, and ten outstanding notices. He had been in hiding for five years since 2019.

Mr. A has been transferred to the Daegu Eastern Police Station, which issued most of his warrants, and further investigation into his other possible crimes is underway. Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi Northern Police Agency reported that between February and October of this year, they addressed 10,389 minor law violations, apprehended 1,108 major wanted individuals, and handled 993 criminal cases.
