In a case that involved a dispute over child discipline at a gathering, a 49-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for murdering his wife. The incident occurred on February 1st at their home in Namdong-gu, Incheon. The altercation began when the wife expressed dissatisfaction concerning the husband’s method of disciplining their son during the gathering where alcohol was consumed. This led the husband to repeatedly stab his wife with a knife.
During the police investigation, the husband denied stabbing his wife, claiming he didn’t understand how the knife ended up in her. However, during the prosecution’s investigation, he stated that he accidentally stabbed her while falling.
The court acknowledged the severity of the crime, noting that it was a heinous act against someone he shared 18 years of marriage with and highlighted the history of domestic violence in their household. The judge considered the irreversible trauma inflicted on the victim’s family but also noted the husband’s acknowledgment and apparent remorse for his actions when deciding the sentence.
