US and Iran Close to Reaching 60-Day Ceasefire Agreement, Including Opening of Hormuz

A report from foreign media has emerged stating that the United States and Iran are set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to extend their ceasefire by 60 days and open the Strait of Hormuz.

The U.S. online media Axios reported on the 23rd (local time), citing multiple U.S. officials, that the U.S. and Iran are preparing to sign an MOU valid for 60 days.

According to the draft agreement reported by Axios, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened without tolls for 60 days. Iran is expected to agree to remove mines placed in the strait to ensure the free passage of ships.

In return, the U.S. plans to lift the blockade on Iranian ports and allow Iran to freely sell oil.

The draft also includes a promise from Iran not to engage in nuclear weapon development, as well as an commitment to halt its uranium enrichment program and participate in negotiations to dispose of highly enriched uranium, according to Axios.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Truth Social, “An agreement between the U.S. and Iran, along with various other countries, has been largely negotiated and is in the final coordination stage,” adding that “the final matters and details are currently being discussed and will be announced soon.”
