“U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping will hold a summit today in Beijing, China. The two leaders are scheduled to have an official welcoming ceremony at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing around 10 a.m. and then proceed directly to the summit meeting. This face-to-face meeting between President Trump and President Xi will be the first in about six months, since they last met in Busan during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in October last year. The summit is expected to cover a wide range of topics, including tariffs and trade disputes, the situation in Iran, the Taiwan issue, and advanced technology controls.
Given that both countries are in a ‘truce’ after conflicts involving high tariffs and export controls, it is expected that they will engage in negotiations to find compromise points. Regarding the Iran issue, there is speculation that President Trump will ask President Xi to play an active mediating role. President Trump also mentioned that he would address the sale of U.S. weapons to Taiwan as an agenda item, but China has reiterated its opposition to this.”
