Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has called for the resignation of Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan, who has been accused of having ties to China.
In a post on Truth Social on the 7th, local time, President Trump stated that the CEO of Intel has a significant conflict of interest and must resign immediately, asserting, “There is no other solution to this issue.”
Previously, Tom Cotton, a member of the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee, sent a letter to Intel’s board of directors, raising suspicions that CEO Tan is associated with semiconductor companies known to be connected to the Chinese Communist Party, and demanded an explanation.
Tan, a Chinese-American, was appointed as Intel’s new CEO in March, after serving as the CEO of Cadence Design Systems, a semiconductor company.
On the 28th of last month, the U.S. Department of Commerce revealed that Cadence Design Systems, during Tan’s tenure as CEO, was involved in transferring sensitive technology to Chinese universities that develop supercomputers needed for China’s military modernization and nuclear weapon development, thus violating export control regulations.
