(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Oh Soo-jin = Heavy rains in Mexico over the past few days have caused landslides and flooding in various places, resulting in at least 44 deaths, according to Reuters on the 12th (local time).
According to a statement released by the Mexican government, the heavy rain has resulted in 18 deaths in Veracruz, 16 in Hidalgo, 9 in Puebla, and 1 in Queretaro.
The Mexican government has established a plan to support the 139 villages affected by the heavy rain.
Claudia Sheinbaum, the President of Mexico, stated on X (formerly Twitter) that they are cooperating with governors of the affected regions as well as various federal authorities to respond to the heavy rain, and the national emergency committee is in operation.
The hurricanes “Priscilla” and “Raymond,” which have weakened to tropical storms, passed, bringing rain to 31 of the 32 states nationwide last week.
The Mexican government had initially released a provisional count indicating that at least 23 people had died and more than 10 were missing due to the torrential rains just the day before.
