Bitcoin Exceeds $99,000 Amid Nomination of Pro-Cryptocurrency SEC Chief

“News of a ‘pro-cryptocurrency figure’ being nominated as the next chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has Bitcoin once again heading towards the $100,000 mark.”

“According to cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, at 4:42 PM Eastern Time, the price of one Bitcoin was trading at $98,316, up 2.60% from 24 hours earlier.”

“At one point during the day, the price rose to the $99,200 range, surpassing the $99,000 level for the first time since November 22, approaching the $100,000 mark.”

“Paul Atkins, the nominee for the next SEC chairman, served as an SEC commissioner from 2002 to 2008 and is the founder and CEO of risk management consulting firm ‘Potomac Global Partners.’ He is considered a ‘pro-cryptocurrency figure.'”

“Bloomberg News reported that ‘Atkins supports digital assets and fintech companies’ and predicted that if confirmed by Congress, he is expected to focus on easing regulations and imposing lower fines for violations.”
