At the Paris Air Show, only the booths of Israeli defense companies were covered with black curtains… Why?

During the Paris Air Show, one of the largest aerospace and defense exhibitions globally, France has closed the booths of major Israeli defense companies like Elbit Systems and Rafael for displaying offensive weapons, contrary to advance regulations. Despite instructions from the French Prime Minister’s office prohibiting the exhibition of offensive weapons, Israel refused to comply, resulting in their booths being barricaded to prevent visitor access. The French Prime Minister’s office stated that all participants were informed of this rule, to which the Israeli Embassy in Paris had also agreed.

Currently, only smaller Israeli booths not showcasing weapons and the Israeli Ministry of Defense booth are open. French Prime Minister François Bayrou emphasized France’s diplomatic stance concerning issues in the Palestinian Gaza Strip, stating that allowing the exhibition of offensive weapons is unacceptable. In response, Israel criticized France’s decision as unreasonable and unprecedented, indicating a possible legal challenge. Tensions are rising between the two nations, possibly leading to diplomatic conflict.

Israel claimed that France’s last-minute guideline change was politically motivated, aimed at hindering Israeli companies competing with French industry. US Republican politicians also criticized France’s actions as unjust and inappropriate. Negotiations are reportedly underway to resolve this issue. Despite being allies, France has recently criticized Israel’s military operations in Gaza, with President Emmanuel Macron urging both Israel and Iran to de-escalate tensions and return to negotiations.
