76% of Americans say “Trump does not deserve the Nobel Peace Prize” │ WP Poll

According to a survey released on the 23rd local time, 76% of Americans believe that President Donald Trump is not deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize.

The Washington Post (WP) and polling organization Ipsos conducted an online survey of 2,513 American adults from the 11th to the 15th, showing that 76% of respondents stated that President Trump does not deserve the Nobel Peace Prize, while only 22% believed he does.

Even among Republican supporters, the responses were evenly split, with 49% saying he does and 49% saying he does not deserve the prize.

The decision about Trump’s potential award lies with the five members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, at least three of whom have publicly criticized Trump, according to the WP.

WP reported that last year, during the presidential election period, Committee Chair Jørgen Watne criticized Trump’s attacks on the media, and another committee member stated that “Trump is focused on dismantling American democracy.”

Meanwhile, in his keynote speech at the United Nations General Assembly, President Trump stated, “I have ended seven wars and negotiated with leaders of various countries, yet I have not received a single call from the UN offering a helping hand,” adding that “everyone says I should receive the Nobel Peace Prize for each of these achievements.”
