According to a poll released by American public radio NPR on the 23rd local time, more than 5 out of 10 Americans believe that President Donald Trump is leading the United States in the wrong direction. The survey revealed that 55% of Americans said, “President Trump is changing the U.S. for the worse,” a 13 percentage point increase compared to a similar point in his first term. Additionally, 60% of respondents said the situation in the country has worsened compared to a year ago.
Furthermore, 53% of respondents stated that policies from the Trump administration have negatively impacted them, a 4 percentage point increase from a year ago. When broken down by political affiliation, 90% of Democratic supporters said the U.S. has become worse compared to a year ago, while 82% of Republican supporters said the situation has improved.
Regarding American democracy, 78% of Americans believe it is under serious threat. Specifically, 91% of Democratic party members, 80% of independents, and 61% of Republicans responded that democracy is in crisis.
This survey was conducted with NPR, PBS, and the polling organization Marist, targeting 1,462 American adults from the 27th to the 30th of last month, with a margin of error of ±2.9 percentage points.
