Samsung Electronics is set to launch its first triple-folding smartphone, the ‘Galaxy Z TriFold’, on December 12. This device boasts the thinnest profile and largest display among the Galaxy series. The Galaxy Z TriFold incorporates advanced technologies amassed since the introduction of the ‘Galaxy Fold’ in 2019. Priced at approximately 3,590,400 KRW, it is around 400,000 KRW cheaper than competitors with the same storage capacity.
During its unveiling event at Samsung Gangnam, Seoul, the Galaxy Z TriFold was highlighted as a special edition meant to expand consumer experiences rather than focus solely on sales. Im Sung-tek, Vice President of Samsung Korea’s General Division, explained that this product is anticipated to spark significant growth in the foldable phone market. Additionally, Samsung’s DX Division Head, Roh Tae-moon, noted the product’s balance of productivity and portability, further enhancing mobile experience across work, creativity, and connectivity.
The Galaxy Z TriFold folds down to a mere 12.9mm and opens up to a width of 3.9mm at its thinnest point. When unfolded, it expands to 253mm (10 inches) but returns to a portable 164.8mm (6.5 inches) bar-type display similar to the ‘Galaxy Z Fold7’ when folded. Designed with an ‘in-folding’ structure, it protects the main display optimally. The inclusion of an ‘Armor Flex Hinge’ and titanium materials in both the hinge and housing enhances durability without significantly increasing weight. Samsung also introduced new quality inspection processes for increased product completion, including CT scans before bonding components, laser scanning for consistent surface quality, and a multi-folding test that ensures up to 200,000 folds over 5 years.
Equipped with a Snapdragon® 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy and a 200MP wide-angle camera, the Galaxy Z TriFold offers a premium photography experience. It also features a large 5600mAh battery, the largest in the Galaxy foldable series, and supports 45W fast charging, a first for the Galaxy Z series.
The device is optimized for the mobile AI era, allowing users to run up to three apps simultaneously on the large screen, with flexible app sizing. It supports Samsung Dex in a tablet version without needing an external display, offering up to four virtual workspaces, each able to run up to five apps concurrently. This, combined with the immersive experience provided by the large display when gaming, marks a significant upgrade in user experience.
Set for domestic release on December 12, the Galaxy Z TriFold will then be launched sequentially in markets such as China, Taiwan, Singapore, the UAE, and the USA. In Korea, it will be sold online via Samsung.com and in 20 retail locations including Samsung Gangnam, with pre-launch experience zones available from December 9. The device, in a single ‘Crafted Black’ model with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage, is priced at 3,590,400 KRW. Despite a higher initial price compared to Huawei’s double-folding phone ‘Mate XTs’, its launch price for the same capacity is around 300,000 KRW lower.
