Elected at the RAN Technical Plenary on the 12th
Overseeing the standardization of all wireless technology sectors, “Samsung Electronics announced on the 12th that Master Yoon Sun Kim (pictured) has been elected as the chair of 3GPP, a global mobile communication technology standards organization. With this, Samsung Electronics now holds the most chair positions among over 800 member companies, with 2 chairs and 4 vice-chairs in 3GPP.”,
“3GPP has been holding a ‘6G Workshop and Technology Plenary’ from the 10th for five days in Incheon, discussing 6G technology for the first time. Yoon Sun Kim, a master from Samsung Research’s Standards Research Team, was elected chair of the Technical Specification Group Radio Access Network (TSG RAN) at the RAN Technical Plenary held on the 12th.”
“Established in 1998, 3GPP is led by global mobile communication companies including Samsung Electronics, Apple, Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia, and Qualcomm, along with related organizations to set global mobile communication technology standards. Samsung Electronics is now able to contribute to the standardization of 6G through its chair position in 3GPP. The Radio Access Network Technical Specification Group, chaired by Master Yoon Sun Kim, oversees the standardization of all sectors of wireless technology, including physical layers, radio protocols, and frequency usage.”
“Previously, Master Yoon Sun Kim was the first Korean elected as chair of the Physical Layer Work Group (RAN WG1) of the Radio Access Network Technical Specification Group in 2021. He has been credited with successfully leading the standardization of 5G physical layer technologies over four years, contributing to the emergence of the 5G network industry. Even after his term as RAN WG1 chair ends in May, he will continue to serve as chair of the Radio Access Network Technical Specification Group.”
