(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Cho Seung-han – The government has recognized Retinal’s display technology and iNIZ’s artificial intelligence (AI) technology as national strategic technologies.
The Ministry of Science and ICT, along with the Korea Institute of S&T Evaluation and Planning (KISTEP), announced on the 24th that they have notified the results of the “1st National Strategic Technology Confirmation Application.”
This system, introduced in March last year, verifies whether the technology possessed or under research and development (R&D) by research institutions, universities, or companies qualifies as national strategic technology.
The evaluation confirmed that Retinal owns and manages fusion display productization technology in the display sector.
This technology integrates a transparent reflector within the lens to create a bright, clear, and lightweight augmented reality (AR) display.
iNIZ was confirmed to own and manage “explainable AI” (XAI) technology in the AI field.
This technology provides explanations for the basis and process of AI predictions, enabling the optimization of industrial processes and prediction of equipment failures using AI.
Applications for confirmation can be made quarterly, and the announcement for the 2nd National Strategic Technology Confirmation Application will take place in April.
Companies confirmed to own and manage national strategic technologies are eligible for a “super-gap technology special” listing, and this year, additional benefits such as designation of military service benefits, policy financial support, etc., have been added for those confirmed to own, manage, or conduct R&D.
