Qualcomm and Google to Jointly Develop Generative AI for Vehicle Digital Cockpit: “Strategic Long-term Partnership”

“Snapdragon Digital Chassis-AAOS Integration”
“Gemini Nano Edge AI Technology Applied”
, Qualcomm and Google have announced a collaboration to develop an in-vehicle cockpit solution based on generative artificial intelligence (AI). They plan to combine Qualcomm’s application processor (AP) Snapdragon Digital Chassis with Google’s AI model Gemini Nano technology to create a vehicle solution.’,

On the 23rd, Qualcomm announced that it has established a strategic long-term collaboration with Google to develop a generative AI-based in-vehicle cockpit solution.

The two companies will combine Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis, Google’s Android Automotive OS (operating system), and Google Cloud technology to develop a standardized new reference platform necessary for generative AI-based cockpit solutions.

Google’s AI model Gemini Nano will be operated using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon heterogeneous edge AI system-on-chip (SoC). Heterogeneous computing refers to systems using more than one processor or core. Additionally, Qualcomm’s AI Studio SDK optimizes the memory, power, and performance of edge devices by utilizing the Qualcomm AI Orchestrator.

The companies’ generative AI-supported digital cockpit development framework offers a personalized and responsive voice interface based on a real-time upgradeable automotive-grade framework. It implements the pre-integrated software of the Android Automotive Operating System (AAOS) and Google’s Gemini Nano features through the Snapdragon SoC.

Furthermore, the two companies created an integrated framework for developing software-defined vehicles (SDVs) with a ‘car-to-cloud’ infrastructure. The vehicle software development hosted by Google Cloud is optimized for the Snapdragon platform, reducing the development time for the AAOS platform and services.

Nakul Duggal, Senior Vice President of Qualcomm Automotive & Cloud Computing Division, stated, “This collaboration with Google is a milestone in opening new possibilities for automakers and top-tier suppliers by developing state-of-the-art generative AI solutions. Qualcomm will expand the collaboration with Google to further advance automotive innovation.”
