Pearl Abyss Reports Operating Loss of 9.2 Billion Won in Q3, Shifts to Deficit… “Increases Marketing Efforts for ‘Crimson Desert'”

[Digital Daily Reporter Moon Dae-chan] Pearl Abyss announced on the 12th that for the third quarter of 2024, it recorded a consolidated revenue of 79.5 billion KRW, an operating loss of 9.2 billion KRW, and a net loss of 7.8 billion KRW.

Revenue decreased by 2.8% compared to the previous quarter and by 6.4% year-on-year. Operating profit decreased by 58.3% compared to the previous quarter, resulting in a transition to a loss. Net loss also turned negative compared to the same period last year. Pearl Abyss explained that this was influenced by increased advertising expenses.

The proportion of overseas sales in the third quarter was 80%, maintaining strong performance globally. By platform, sales consisted of 76% from PC, 21% from mobile, and 3% from consoles.

Their flagship game “Black Desert” revealed “Land of the Morning: Seoul,” which embodies the aesthetics and beauty of Korean tradition, providing global users with a unique experience. Along with “Land of the Morning: Seoul,” a new class called “Do-sa,” reflecting Korean colors, was released to enhance game immersion.

The new game “Crimson Desert” was demonstrated with four bosses at the world’s largest gaming show, Gamescom 2024, in August, receiving positive reviews from global media and game fans. Additionally, a 50-minute gameplay video was released in September, showcasing the story, action, and entertainment aspects to be experienced in Crimson Desert’s vast open world.

Pearl Abyss plans to reinforce the live services of Black Desert and the “EVE” IP in the fourth quarter. At the upcoming G-Star 2024 gameshow in Busan starting on the 14th, they are set to host a demonstration event for Crimson Desert.

Seok-Woo Cho, CFO of Pearl Abyss, stated, “In 2024, we will continue to achieve results through ongoing innovations in Black Desert and Eve,” and added, “We will gradually increase marketing intensity for the successful launch of the new IP.”
