Oh Kyung-seok, CEO of Dunamu, admitted there were shortcomings in their investment in Medistaff, amid controversies surrounding the blocking of medical residents’ return. Oh made these remarks while appearing as a witness at the National Assembly’s Health and Welfare Committee audit on the 15th. Medistaff is a doctor community site, and Dunamu acquired an 18.29% stake for 4.3 billion won this year.
On this day, Representative Han Ji-ah of the People Power Party stated, “As the conflict between medical associations prolonged, 3,136 excess deaths occurred from February to July last year due to the medical gap.” She also mentioned that Medistaff played a significant role in preventing medical residents from returning to hospitals. During the previous conflict, when some medical residents collectively resigned, the personal information of those who stayed or returned was disclosed on Medistaff.
Representative Han stated, “There were posts on Medistaff saying, ‘I will commit sexual assault if someone returns to the hospital.'” She criticized Medistaff’s management for enhancing security to prevent identification of such posters, allowing individuals to freely post such comments. She asked Oh what he thought about the ethical standards of Medistaff. Oh responded, “I apologize for causing concern.”
Another question was raised by Representative Han, “Were you aware that Medistaff facilitated an industry blacklist and that its management had been referred to the prosecution?” Oh replied, “We invested for the growth of the domestic medical platform,” but acknowledged, “Upon comprehensive review, there seem to be areas that were lacking.” Representative Han demanded that Oh submit an evaluation of the appropriateness of their investment in Medistaff and their subsequent action plan.
