(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Han Sang-yong = ‘Naver Labs Europe’ unveiled the new AI models ‘Duster2’ (DUSt3R-2) and ‘Anny’ at an international conference in France, enhancing the understanding capabilities of robots in terms of space and humans.

Naver Labs Europe announced on the 24th that they held the 4th ‘AI for Robotics’ workshop on the theme of ‘Spatial Intelligence’ from the 20th to the 21st (local time), introducing these two models.

First introduced at the end of 2023, ‘Duster’ is a ‘3D vision’ model that can reconstruct space into three dimensions (3D) from just one photograph.

When applied to robots, it enables them to quickly grasp a new space in 3D without a pre-made map.

The newly released ‘Duster2’ is a next-generation version that integrates various derivative studies and considers commercialization.

Anny is a ‘3D body’ model capable of finely representing human bodies using various parameters.

It features diverse human characteristics worldwide, from children to the elderly, leveraging body measurement data from open-source modeling communities and population statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO), without infringing on personal data privacy.

The workshop shared the latest research not only on 3D reconstruction technology but also on how spatial intelligence can enhance robots’ perception, decision-making, and action capabilities.

Lee Dong-hwan, leader at Naver Labs, stated, “We will continue to actively share our research achievements on the global stage to expand the ecosystem and focus more on AI research and development for robots.”

The ‘AI for Robotics’ workshop has been held every two years since 2019, where researchers and experts worldwide gather to discuss the present and future of AI technology.

Located in Grenoble, France, Naver Labs Europe conducts spatial intelligence research with researchers from 26 countries worldwide.
