Minister Yu Sang-im of the Ministry of Science and ICT announced on March 2 that they will attend the largest global mobile communication exhibition, the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, held in Barcelona, Spain, from March 3 to 6. This is the first attendance by a Korean ICT minister in three years.
According to the Ministry of Science and ICT, on March 3, Minister Yu plans to visit booths of Korean startups and small to medium-sized enterprises, followed by visits to major Korean companies such as Samsung Electronics, SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus, to meet with their representatives and encourage participating companies. Additionally, the minister is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Vivek Badrinath, the incoming Secretary-General of the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA), to cooperate in the commercialization of next-generation mobile communications such as 5G and 6G.
On March 4, Minister Yu will visit booths of global communication equipment companies such as Ericsson, Nokia, and Huawei to grasp the latest technology trends and participate in policy forums and meetings with heads of related organizations to discuss policy directions. On March 5, they will visit the booths of the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) and domestic companies Solid and Innowireless, and meet with Korean media journalists.
Minister Yu stated, “In the era of new waves in the telecommunications market such as 6G, artificial intelligence (AI), and satellite communication, the private and public sectors must unite to maintain Korea’s status as a global leader in telecommunications. The Ministry of Science and ICT will do its utmost in investing in next-generation network infrastructure and research and development, and will strive for international cooperation to facilitate the free expansion of our digital companies abroad.”
