LG CNS announced on the 6th that it will launch the power AI solution “Enerdict” for virtual power plant (VPP) operators.
VPP refers to the operation of small-scale renewable energy plants, such as solar and wind power plants distributed nationwide, as if they were a single power plant. VPP operators manage these small, distributed plants, and the limitation arises when the power exchange gives real-time dispatch commands to each plant. Enerdict helps quickly respond by finding optimized solutions for fulfilling dispatch commands.
LG CNS has incorporated artificial intelligence (AI) technologies such as machine learning and deep learning, along with mathematical optimization technology in Enerdict. This combination enhances the accuracy of power generation forecasts and enables efficient response to dispatch instructions, thereby maximizing the operational profit of VPP operators. Mathematical optimization is a technology that calculates all possible scenarios with existing resources and conditions to find the best alternative that delivers maximum efficiency.
The company explained that Enerdict boasts the industry’s highest level of accuracy in power generation forecasts. The AI analyzes accumulated meteorological data and various weather forecasts from both domestic and international meteorological agencies to enhance the accuracy of power generation forecasts based on the location of renewable energy plants like solar and wind. Additionally, for the power exchange’s dispatch instructions, the mathematical optimization technology identifies the optimal response options.
Enerdict is offered in a Software as a Service (SaaS) format, allowing users to subscribe to the solution in a cloud environment. This makes it easy to adopt Enerdict domestically and internationally, ensuring that users always have access to the latest and best version of the Enerdict solution.
Chang Min-yong, head of LG CNS’s Data Analytics & AI (D&A) division, stated, “We have implemented the best solution for VPP operators by combining AI and mathematical optimization capabilities,” and added, “We aim to enable our customers to innovate their business value through Enerdict.”
Meanwhile, LG CNS is discussing the adoption of Enerdict with companies in the energy, telecommunications, and construction sectors that are preparing for VPP businesses. With an emphasis on policies that expand renewable energy, the domestic VPP market is expected to become more active, leading to an increase in the number of adopting companies.
