Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has praised “Path of Exile (POE) 2,” which has been capturing significant attention and gaining popularity among gamers worldwide since its initial release. According to SteamDB, a statistics site for the PC gaming platform Steam, POE 2 reached a peak of 579,000 concurrent players shortly after its launch on December 7, and it ranked 5th globally with 415,000 concurrent players in the past 24 hours.
Elon Musk, known to be a gaming enthusiast, shared his experience of playing POE 2 via his X account (formerly Twitter), stating that he even enjoyed the game using Starlink while on a plane. He expressed his satisfaction with a 2-minute gameplay video, highlighting Starlink’s impressive capability for real-time gaming even in the sky.
Players are praising the game’s tactile controls and challenging difficulty design, which are key elements of POE 2. The New Zealand-based developer Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has been receptive to user feedback, quickly implementing convenience improvements and balance adjustments, earning positive reviews for their active communication.
Kakao Games secured the publishing rights for the domestic PC platform of the sequel POE 2, following its predecessor, through a contract with GGG. The game’s success has positively impacted Kakao Games’ stock price, with shares rising from a closing price of 17,290 won on the first trading day after the launch to 20,900 won after four consecutive days of growth.
In contrast, Blizzard’s competing game, “Diablo 4,” has been experiencing a decline in concurrent players on Steam since the release of its first expansion pack in October. After reaching 56,000 concurrent players post-expansion launch, Diablo 4’s player count has fallen below 10,000 following POE 2’s release, marking a notable drop in its popularity compared to the thriving success of POE 2.
