(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Cho Seung-han = The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Industrial Technology Association announced on the 11th that they selected Jo Young-jun, a senior researcher at Kolon Industries, and Choi Chun-hwa, CEO of Samjeong Solution, as the recipients of the Korea Engineer Award for November.

Senior Researcher Jo is an expert in composite materials manufacturing who succeeded in localizing high-strength flame-retardant resin, which was heavily dependent on foreign imports, and developed the nation’s first multifunctional composite material panel system with a sandwich structure.

He independently developed solid powder-type flame-retardant resin and obtained a ‘semi-nonflammable material’ suitability grade, with fire performance standards similar to those of noncombustible materials, for the first time in the country.

CEO Choi is an expert in the field of radio wave blocking and developed the first AI-equipped portable anti-drone gun in Korea.

He commercialized a mobile ‘low-altitude unmanned aerial vehicle response integrated solution’ with built-in detection, identification, and neutralization devices for drones, which has been supplied to the police, military, and critical national facilities.

The Korea Engineer Award was established to encourage technological innovation in the industrial field and to foster an environment that values engineers. Each month, one engineer from a large corporation and one from a mid-sized or small business is selected and awarded the Minister of Science and ICT award along with a prize of 5 million won.
