Yoon Sang-hyun: “Kim Jae-seop told me, ‘Hyung, I’m getting criticized’… But the people will change in a year.”

In a recent appearance on lawyer Bae Seung-hee’s YouTube channel “Dda Dda Boo Dda Bae Seung Hee Live,” Representative Yoon Sang-hyun of the People Power Party discussed the aftermath faced by lawmaker Kim Jae-seop after not participating in the vote on President Yoon Suk-yeol’s impeachment motion. Kim reportedly expressed concerns about backlash in his constituency, asking Yoon how to handle the criticism.

Yoon reassured Kim by sharing his own experience, stating that he faced similar criticism for opposing the impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye. Despite initial backlash, Yoon mentioned that a year later, people appreciated his loyalty, and he even won re-election in Incheon Dong-michuhol as an independent candidate in the 2020 general elections.

The National Assembly recently held a session on December 7 to vote on the first impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk-yeol. However, the vote was invalid due to insufficient voter turnout, as only 195 lawmakers participated, falling short of the required two-thirds majority (200 votes). The People Power Party had decided to oppose the impeachment, with most of its lawmakers abstaining from the vote, except for Ahn Cheol-soo, Kim Ye-ji, and Kim Sang-wook, who participated.
