“Seoul (Yonhap News) – Reporter Oh Gyu-jin: On the 2nd, the Democratic Party plans to present a party constitution amendment to the Central Committee, which primarily involves introducing a ‘one person, one vote’ system for delegates and party members with voting rights.
The amendment includes the removal of ‘delegate weighting,’ which was previously applied in the elections for party leader and top committee members.
Voting will be conducted online over two days, starting at 10 a.m. on the same day.
From the 22nd to the 24th of last month, the Democratic Party conducted a survey asking for opinions on the introduction of the ‘one person, one vote’ system. Among the 1,169,969 party members with voting rights, 370,122 (31.64%) participated, with 85.3% in favor.
The ‘one person, one vote’ system, a key pledge by leader Chung Cheong-rae, was initially pushed in December last year but failed to pass the Central Committee.
Additionally, the Central Committee will also review and decide on the party’s financial management plan and budget for 2026 on the same day.
