The interim leader and floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, Kim Byung-gi (second from the left), is speaking at a social agreement ceremony held at the National Assembly on the 3rd to aid victims of trust fraud. On the last day of the June extraordinary session of the National Assembly, the ruling and opposition parties reportedly failed to reach an agreement on the supplementary budget during the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts. The Democratic Party announced its intention to unilaterally pass the supplementary budget bill in the plenary session that day.
Democratic Party’s Deputy Chief of Floor Operations, Moon Jin-seok, told reporters at the National Assembly that morning, “The negotiations on the supplementary budget have collapsed,” and confirmed that the 2 p.m. plenary session, which was convened for this purpose, would proceed. Deputy Chief Moon noted that the main sticking points in the negotiations were the targets for livelihood recovery consumption coupons and the ratio of national funding support and expressed the intention to pass the supplementary budget regardless of whether the People Power Party attends the afternoon session.
