The Presidential Office stated, “President Yoon never issued orders regarding nominations during his time as a presidential-elect… He only spoke positively when somebody mentioned ‘Kim Young-sun.'”

The Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) has released a recording of a call allegedly involving Yoon Seok-yeol, then president-elect, discussing nominations, which he denies influencing. The presidential office stated Yoon was neither briefed about nor directed candidate nominations, with Lee Jun-seok, then-party chairman, and Yoon Sang-hyun, the nomination committee chair, responsible for decisions. The disputed call, made between Yoon and Myung Tae-kyun on May 9, 2022, pertained to the upcoming by-election, shortly before the party’s nomination of Kim Young-sun, but the office claims the conversation was not significant. The Democratic Party contends the recording proves Yoon’s involvement in candidate selection.
