The “‘Myeong Tae-gyun Special Prosecutor Act’ was unilaterally introduced by the opposition party as the ruling party lawmakers walked out.
In Seoul on the 12th, at a full session of the National Assembly’s Legislative and Judiciary Committee, the opposition party alone introduced the ‘Myeong Tae-gyun Special Prosecutor Act.’ In response, the seats of the ruling party members who walked out in protest were left empty.
On the 17th, the National Assembly’s Legislative and Judiciary Committee will hold the first subcommittee on bill review to examine the ‘Myeong Tae-gyun Special Prosecutor Act.’
The Democratic Party plans to begin the review on this day and process the special prosecutor act in a plenary session on the 27th.
The special prosecutor act was introduced at the full committee meeting on the 12th by the opposition’s initiative and referred to the bill subcommittee.
Previously, six opposition parties, including the Democratic Party of Korea, National Innovation Party, Reform Party, Progressive Party, Basic Income Party, and Social Democratic Party, proposed the ‘Myeong Tae-gyun Special Prosecutor Act’ on the 11th to investigate the allegations of candidacy interference by President Yoon Seok-yeol and his wife.
According to the bill, the special prosecutor will investigate the allegations that Myeong, former candidate Yoon Seok-yeol, and First Lady Kim Keon-hee were involved in illegal and false public opinion surveys used during the 20th presidential election and primary process.
The investigation targets the suspicion that Myeong provided public opinion surveys for free in exchange for intervention in nominations and other interests and privileges.”
