The government has received three major special prosecutor bills: the Che Haebyung Special Prosecutors Act, the Sedition Special Prosecutors Act, and the Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutors Act, which were passed under the leadership of the Democratic Party in the National Assembly.

According to the Ministry of Government Legislation on the 9th, these bills, which passed the main session under the leadership of the Democratic Party on the 5th, were forwarded to the government on that morning. The government must promulgate the bills or exercise its right to request reconsideration (veto) within 15 days from the day after they are sent from the National Assembly. The deadline for handling is the 24th.

In political circles, there is anticipation that they could be presented and processed at the Cabinet meeting scheduled as early as the next day.

The Che Haebyung Special Prosecutors Act (special prosecutor act for investigating the truth behind the obstruction of investigation and concealment of incidents related to the death of a Marine during a search operation in July 2023) targets the investigation of the circumstances surrounding the death of Marine Corporal Che and allegations of investigation obstruction by high-ranking government officials.

The Sedition Special Prosecutors Act (special prosecutor act for investigating sedition and foreign exchange activities by former President Yoon Seok-yeol) targets 11 criminal suspicions related to former President Yoon’s proclamation of martial law on December 3rd, including acts of sedition, foreign influence activities, and military rebellion.

The Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutors Act (special prosecutor act for investigating state corruption and illegal election intervention involving Kim Geon-hee and Myeong Tae-kyun, as well as Geonjinbupsa) specifies a total of 16 investigation targets, including allegations of stock manipulation of Deutsche Motors by Kim Geon-hee, the wife of the former president, allegations of receiving luxury bags, allegations related to Geonjinbupsa, and suspicions of nomination interference and illegal polling involving political broker Myeong Tae-kyun.
