Prime Minister Kim Min-seok stated that anti-foreigner protests not only cause anxiety among foreigners but also significantly disrupt the operations of local small businesses, labeling them as self-harming actions and calling for strict measures in response.
In his opening remarks at the public safety and security ministers’ meeting held at the Seoul Government Complex today, Prime Minister Kim emphasized that discriminatory acts or derogatory expressions towards foreigners must be eradicated, as they damage the national image during what is now being recognized as the ‘K-era’ globally.
He further mentioned the upcoming APEC summit in Gyeongju later this month, stressing the importance of creating a safe environment where foreigners do not feel any discomfort or anxiety even for a moment, stating that this is a task for us to tackle.
Prime Minister Kim urged all relevant departments to respond firmly, according to law and principles, to any acts of hatred and discrimination against foreign tourists or actions that harm the operations of small local businesses.
