Park Chan-dae, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, urged Acting President and Deputy Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok, who also serves as the Minister of Strategy and Finance, to appoint Ma Eun-hyeok as a Constitutional Court judge by tomorrow.
At a floor countermeasure meeting in the National Assembly today, Park criticized Deputy Prime Minister Choi for not appointing candidate Ma, stating, “A contradictory situation repeatedly occurs where the acting president, entrusted with the grave duty of safeguarding the constitution, is at the forefront of violating constitutional order.”
Park also pointed out that “it has been 19 days since the Constitutional Court issued the decision to appoint Ma,” questioning whether it is normal for one to not follow the Constitutional Court’s decision while claiming to reject the special prosecution law on the grounds of the grave duty of safeguarding the constitution.
He further emphasized, “We can no longer overlook (Choi’s violation of constitutional order). We have shown enough patience and waited long enough.”
Meanwhile, Park commented, “Kim Sung-hoon, the deputy chief of the Presidential Security Service, eventually carried out retaliatory disciplinary actions,” stating that “after the insurrection leader Yoon Seok-youl was released, Deputy Director Kim, emboldened, carried out personnel retribution against a security agency executive who disobeyed his orders.”
He also mentioned, “The police have reapplied for an arrest warrant for Deputy Director Kim. This is the fourth application,” and expressed hope that “the prosecution will swiftly apply for the arrest warrant without delay. If there are further obstructions, they should be investigated by the special prosecution as a co-conspirator in the insurrection.”
Regarding Acting President Choi, he added, “Do not approve unjust dismissals or approvals,” and warned, “If you approve retaliatory disciplinary actions, Acting President Choi will also be held responsible.”
