Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon commented on Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung, suggesting that he should not run for the presidency. During a session at the Seoul City Council on the 21st, Mayor Oh responded to a question from Seoul City Council member Yoon Young-hee regarding Lee’s remarks on Article 84 of the Constitution. Oh stated, “It is human nature to interpret things in a way that benefits one’s position, but I believe he should not run.”
Mayor Oh criticized the approach of acting as if there were no issues legally, labeling it as shameful and noted that “there will be a public judgment on this matter.”
Previously, Lee had mentioned during an MBC debate on the 19th that his criminal trial would be suspended if elected president, referring to the majority opinion. Article 84 of the Constitution states, “The President shall not be subject to criminal prosecution during tenure, except for insurrection or foreign offenses.”
Regarding Lee’s lack of a stance on constitutional amendments, Mayor Oh suggested that Lee might find it politically advantageous not to discuss it under the current situation.
