Kim Yoon-deok, Head of General Affairs, Speaks
(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Choi Jae-goo – Kim Yoon-deok, head of the General Affairs Headquarters at the Democratic Party’s Central Election Committee, delivered remarks at the 4th meeting of general headquarters heads held at the party’s central office in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 15th.
(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Hong Joon-seok – The Democratic Party announced on the 19th that it would seek bank loans instead of launching a fund to cover the election expenses of presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung.
This decision was made due to concerns over potential large-scale fund-selling scams, following instances of ‘no-show’ frauds where scammers impersonated officials from the Democratic Party’s Central Election Committee or legislative aides.
Kim Yoon-deok, the head of the General Affairs Headquarters, explained to reporters at the party’s office in Yeouido, “If we solicit funds, the process usually proceeds rapidly within 1-2 hours, and if someone impersonates the Democratic Party and gathers funds in our name, it could lead to serious issues.”
Kim added, “(The loans) will be pursued after re-evaluating our assets and preparing specifics,” and noted that “the loan amount is likely to cover expenses beyond those reimbursed by the National Election Commission.”
Recently, nationwide scams have emerged with individuals impersonating Democratic Party officials or legislative aides, falsely ordering election supplies or demanding advance payments for restaurants or accommodations.
