Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated, “The second Trump administration does not hesitate to engage in dialogue and negotiations with hostile countries,” adding, “We should learn from this.”
On the morning of February 17th, at the Democratic Party’s Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly building in Yeouido, Seoul, Lee commented, “U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his desire to resume talks with Russia and China on nuclear and arms reduction.”
He further noted, “(President Trump) is also reaffirming his intention for the end of hostilities between Russia and Ukraine” and expressed hope that “Trump, who led the first-ever North Korea-U.S. summit, will create a new historical turning point with competition within peace.”
He emphasized the necessity for “pragmatic diplomacy to protect national interests and peace, while maintaining the firm principles of the South Korea-U.S. alliance and security cooperation.”
Lee also mentioned, “Fortunately, last week, a trilateral foreign ministers’ meeting between South Korea, the U.S., and Japan was held,” adding that they agreed to actively communicate in various fields, including economic security, AI, quantum technology, and semiconductors. He stressed that it might be time for bipartisan support, as well as collaboration between the government and businesses.
