On the 6th, Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, spoke about the situation where some online communities have posted messages predicting riots if the impeachment is upheld, stating, “This is a warning. Inciting violence will surely have consequences.”
On the same day, Lee shared an article on his Facebook that covered this issue, and wrote, “Remember that such methods will never be able to reverse the great flow of history.”
Lee emphasized, “South Korea is a nation possessing the great ‘Korean people’ who have accomplished a historic peaceful revolution,” and “No form of violence can kill justice. The people’s awareness in South Korea is not at a level that can be swayed by violence.”
He further added, “Martin Luther King said, ‘Violence might bring about temporary results but it cannot bring permanent peace. It only creates new and more complicated issues,'” emphasizing, “If you have opinions, persuade and move hearts. That is the principle and doctrine of a democratic republic.”
