Kwon Seong-dong, the floor leader of the People Power Party, announced on the 15th that “Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, who is acting as the President’s deputy, will not run in the People Power Party’s presidential primary.”
During a parliamentary strategy meeting, Kwon stated that mentioning additional candidacies does not help the excitement of the primary nor the important duties of the acting President.
This move is interpreted as an internal effort by the leadership to address the demands within the party for Han’s candidacy.
Kwon further emphasized, “We must clearly understand the nature of this primary,” and stated, “Former President Yoon Seok-yeol was judged by the law through impeachment. Now, it is time for Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party’s candidate and main perpetrator of national disruption, to face the judgment of the people through the election.”
He continued, “We must overcome the Lee Jae-myung forces, which will drive Korea into endless conflict and division,” and concluded, “Despite many differences within us, this time, it is our shared mission.”
