Kim Yong-tae, the interim committee chairman, stated, “I will contact Yoon today… The party defection issue will be resolved by the weekend.”

Kim Yong-tae, the Emergency Response Committee chairman of the People Power Party, announced on the 16th that he would contact former President Yoon Seok-yeol later that afternoon regarding the recommendation for him to leave the party. During an appearance on KBS Radio, Kim mentioned that issues involving the former president should be resolved by the weekend, emphasizing the party’s respect for constitutional principles.

Kim also addressed potential compulsory measures if Yoon refuses to resign, stating the party is considering institutionalizing rules within the party’s constitution. This includes restricting party membership for elected officials deemed unconstitutional by the Constitutional Court.

When asked about differences of opinion with presidential candidate Kim Moon-soo over Yoon’s resignation, Kim suggested that the party’s judgment should be respected by the candidate.

Regarding concerns about Yoon’s legal team joining the presidential campaign, intensifying it as being “pro-Yoon,” Kim stated that appointments were made for those offering support at the working-level and the matter would be organized swiftly.

Additionally, Kim addressed the controversial appointment of Chung Ho-young, involved in past political incidents, stating corrective actions have been taken and emphasized readiness to rectify such situations promptly in the future.

Kim confirmed plans to visit Gwangju on the anniversary of the May 18 Democratic Movement, highlighting the candidate’s ongoing engagement with the history and significance of the region.
