Kim Dugwan, a former lawmaker, declared his candidacy for the next leader of the Democratic Party. He aimed at his competitor, former leader Lee Jae-myung, by saying that he will prevent a one-person dominance, and Lee is expected to officially confirm his re-election tomorrow (the 10th). Four contenders for the leadership of the People Power Party, including Na Kyung-won, Won Hee-ryong, Yoon Sang-hyun, and Han Dong-hoon, will participate in the first TV debate at 5 p.m.
Kim Sang-min reports.
Kim Duk-hwan, a former lawmaker, declared his candidacy for the future leader of the Democratic Party at the Sejong Special Self-Governing City Council this morning. Kim started his candidacy declaration by making remarks aimed at the expected declaration of candidacy by former leader Lee Jae-myung tomorrow.
[Kim Dugwan/Former Democratic Party lawmaker: “The DNA of ‘democracy’ in our Democratic Party is being damaged, and our party’s strength lies in diversity and dynamism. These aspects are disappearing now, so if we don’t preserve them…”]
He emphasized that his candidacy for the party leadership is a strong determination to prevent the imminent collapse of the Democratic Party, where there is currently a specter of collectivism rushing in line at the command of one person.
Kim is scheduled to visit the National 5.18 Democratic Cemetery in Gwangju this afternoon and meet Gwangju Mayor Kang Ki-jung.
As a result, with Lee Jae-myung and Kim Duk-hwan forming a dual confrontation as candidates for the future Democratic Party leader, former leader Lee will announce his intention to reappoint himself at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the party’s central office in Yeouido.
Lee’s side stated that they will present a vision for the lost Republic of Korea and deliver a message of hope to the people. They also said that they will announce policy alternatives to achieve the recovery of people’s livelihoods.
With the upcoming People Power Party convention just two weeks away, competition among the contenders for the party leadership is accelerating.
Na Kyung-won, Won Hee-ryong, Yoon Sang-hyun, and Han Dong-hoon, the four contenders for the party leadership, will participate in the first TV debate at 5 p.m.
It is expected that there will be conflicts among the candidates regarding the relationship with the government, policy visions, etc., along with the recent controversy over text messages between Kim Geun-hee and candidate Han Dong-hoon.
